WHAT’S HAPPENING in SPRING 2017?

 

April 26–Disciples Club 6:00-7:30

May 3, 10, 17, 24—First Eucharist class in Nave, Disciples Club in Narthex. (Note: First Eucharist classes are for children who are in their 2nd year of preparation and have already made their 1st Reconciliation.)

May 6–Catechists & Volunteers meeting Brendan House 10:00

May 13–Baptismal Preparation for Parents and Godparents 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

May 27 & 28–Infant Baptism at every Mass

May 31–6:00-7:30, Potluck for all families. Children in First Eucharist classes will have their rehearsal tonight in the Nave. 6:30-7:00 Spanish Mass rehearsal for families, 7:00-7:30 English Masses rehearsal for families.

June 3 & 4–First Eucharist (Note: A professional photographer will attend and take pictures at the 5:00, 10:00, and Noon Masses. No other photos are allowed during the Mass.)

 

VOLUNTEERING AND DONATION OPPORTUNITIES

We need more catechists for Children’s Liturgy of the Word.

We need scholarship donations for Vacation Bible Camp. (Tuition is $55.)

We need volunteers for advance planning of Vacation Bible Camp. Planning has begun!

RCIA ADAPTED FOR CHILDREN—Preparing for Easter Vigil

Overview: RCIA adapted for children is a program that prepares children older than 7 for Baptism, Confirmation, and First Communion at the Easter Vigil. RCIA takes approximately one year, depending on readiness.

RCIA Registration for Children

Place and Time: 3:30 on Saturdays in the Guadalupe Room at Brendan House.

Age: 7 and older.

Cost: None

Moving Forward: Older children who have been baptized at the Easter Vigil will join other children in next year’s preparation for First Reconciliation.

DISCIPLES CLUB—October through May, most Wednesdays

Overview: Disciples Club is St. Brendan’s main program of Faith Formation for children. We strongly urge parents to bring their children to Disciples Club from First through Fifth grades. Even after they have received their First Communion, there is much to learn about faithful discipleship.

Place and Time: narthex, chapel, library, Franciscan room, nursery. We begin and end every session in the Narthex, 6:00-7:30 on Wednesdays.

Age: First through fifth grade

Cost: $50 for the year

Moving forward: After 5th grade, children begin to attend youth programs.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION for First Reconciliation and First Communion

Overview: Children prepare for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. A child must have completed a full year of Faith Formation either in Disciples Club (previously Pathways) OR St. Brendan Catholic School before beginning preparation. Also, the child must be attending either Disciples Club OR St. Brendan Catholic School during the year of preparation. We strongly urge parents to teach their child the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Act of Contrition before the program begins in December.

Place and Time: All sessions are in the Nave, 6:00-7:30 on Wednesdays (see calendars below).

Age: Minimum age 2nd grade, older children are welcome

Cost: $75 for the year

Moving forward: After First Communion, faith formation continues with Disciples Club or St. Brendan Catholic School.

NURSERY—all year long

Overview: Nursery is provided during all Sunday Masses, and at some other events.

Place and Time: Nursery is between the library and the chapel.

Age: baby until third birthday

Cost: none

Moving forward: After your child turns three, he/she joins Little Disciples on Sundays at 10:00.

LITTLE DISCIPLES—all year long

Overview: Little Disciples is provided by parents and other catechists during the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass. The Little Disciples format includes story, craft, drama, coloring, and singing.

Place and Time: Meeting in the library after dismissal from the 10 a.m. Mass. (Children are dismissed after the Collect and return to the Mass as the Offering is brought forward.)

Age: Three through Kindergarten

Cost: no fee

Moving forward: After your child completes Kindergarten, he/she may join Children’s Liturgy of the Word on Sundays at 10:00.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD (CLOW)—all year long

Overview: Children’s Liturgy of the Word is provided by parents and other catechists during the 5:00 Vigil Mass and the 10:00 a.m. Mass. It is a chance for elementary aged children to hear and reflect on the scriptures that are being proclaimed during the Mass.

Place and Time: Library during the Vigil Mass, narthex during the 10:00 a.m. Mass (Children are dismissed after the Collect and return to the Mass after the Offering.)

Moving forward: After 5th grade, children begin to attend youth programs.

VACATION BIBLE CAMP–July 10-14, 2017

Overview: Children ages three years old through 5th grade are invited to join us for a week full of castles, knights and ladies as we explore God’s Kingdom in MIGHTY FORTRESS. Youth 6th grade through 12th grade (in the fall) are invited to be supervised student helpers. NOTE: Beginning this year we are requesting a $15 donation from adults & teen volunteers. This is not mandatory. These donations will be used for scholarships. The Friday offering recipient for 2017 is Catholic Relief Services.

Place and Time: We use the entire church and part of the school. Time is 9:15 through 12:30, a little longer on Monday and Friday.

Age: Three through entering 5th grade

Cost: $55 per child for ages 3 through 5th grade

Moving forward: 6th graders become helpers
