As we edge up to the celebration of Christmas we remember a few profound spiritual truths.

  • God loved the world so much that He sent His only-begotten Son to rescue us from the kingdom of darkness and bring us into His marvelous kingdom of light.
  • God will never leave or abandon us. His uniting Himself to our humanity has changed the course of human history definitively. We won’t always be shielded from the sufferings and difficulties of our broken world but with the Lord’s help we can be victorious over suffering and be a people who live out the great commandment of love of God and love of neighbor.
  • Through the grace of our conversion the Lord directs our attention to living our life under the guidance of the Holy Spirit who makes us sensitive to the plight and problems of people, especially the most poor and vulnerable. We get to reflect God’s goodness and love to others.
  • Way too many people don’t understand the basic message of the Gospel and are waiting for the joy of redemption. We have the privilege of helping them find their way to Christ.

I wish you all a most blessed and joyful Christmas and safe travels for all those traveling in the next couple of weeks.

It is a blessing to be your pastor and to celebrate my 11th Christmas at St. Brendan parish.

In Christ,
Fr. Jim Northrop
Pastor
